Assignment that I am the most proud of

The assignment that I am the most proud of is the portraits assignment.  I think that during the portraits assignment I learned a lot about how to photograph things that I have been photographing for a long time and change around techniques to make it better.  I learned a lot by doing some reading ahead of time to make sure that I would try something new to make myself a better photographer.  I think that one reason I am the most proud of this assignment is because it is something that people do so often and that I have done before and that I know I will do in the future and now I know how to improve what I am doing.  I think that my favorite technique that I learned from this assignment would be blurring of the subject, the background, or the whole image.  I think that that technique gives the photo a different mood and makes it more interesting.

Most Memorable Experiences

One of my most memorable experiences from this semester is the who am I video.  I think that this was very memorable because it was one of the things that you really had to think about.  I think that this project took the most time because it had to be really personal and thoughtful.  In the project it was fun to learn about myself and go through all of my photos to find good ones to put in.  I think that it was also interesting to try and find a song that fit the video and didn't take away from the meaning at all.  Also, it was really nerve racking to share the video and see what other people would think about it.  The most fun part about the "Who am I?" videos was getting to see everyone else's videos and getting to learn about them as well.

My other most memorable experience from photo one is using pinhole cameras. I think that this activity was very memorable for a couple of reasons. First, I learned a lot from it about the production of photographs from before the digital camera and about developing things in the dark room.  Also, I think getting to work in a pair is really fun and you can learn a lot from it.  One of the most fun things about the pinhole camera photographs was experimenting with the exposure time and seeing how everything turned out.  It was very interesting in the dark room to see how other groups photos were coming out and how ours were.  I think that in general this was the most fun thing that we did this semester.

Besides just those two projects, I think that this class in general was really fun.  I think that it was fun to really get to know my camera and about composition and really get better at taking photographs.  I really look forward to getting to further know my camera and to take better and better images.

Photos with Quotes

I learned a lot about design and making things work together by doing this project.  While working on it I realized that color choice is very important in making the words really pop. On two of my photos with quotes, the quotes show up more, and on the last one (The quote by Karim Seddki) the background ended up being busier than I thought it was and it was hard to find something to really make the words pop. I also learned that it looks good when the shape of your text goes with the picture.  On one of my photos (The quote by Paramahansa Yogananda), the shape of the quote does not go as well with the photo as in my other two. I also learned that it looks a lot better if the quote really seems to go with the image.

Pinhole Camera

A pinhole camera is a camera that has no lens and just a pinhole aperture.

I learned a lot of things about creating pinhole images.  This first thing that I learned is about the process of taking the photo. The person you are taking a photo of has to be very still in order for the image to come out clear.  Also you have to find the perfect exposure time so that the image doesn't come out over exposed or under exposed.  For our images we ranged from our exposure being 30 seconds to 40 seconds. I also learned that you have to be very careful about making sure that the shutter and lid are on tight to let in no extra light. You also have to make sure that the light sensitive is in the middle of the pinhole for the image to come out right.

The other things that I learned during this project was about the developing of the image.  First I learned about the light sensitive paper and how the chemicals on it work. I learned that the paper is not sensitive to red light so that inside the dark room there are red lights instead of normal ones.  Also I learned that in order for the image to show up on the paper it has to go through the developer, fixer, stop bath, and then water. What we figured out while developing our images was that we needed to adjust our exposure time. When the image came out too dark it needed less exposure time, and when it came out too white then we needed a longer exposure time.

I really enjoyed this project. I think that it was really fun to work with a partner and try to figure everything out about the camera.  It was really fun to explore the exposure times and different things to do with the camera. One thing that we tried to do but weren't successful with was ghosting.  We tried this twice, one time the exposure time was too long so the photo didn't work in general.  The other time we tried this, I was the subject and was in the photo for too long so I did not come out like a ghost.

Creative Portraits/Self-Portraits

Two strategies that I used in my portraits were taking unfocused shots and altering my perspective. I tried these options out several times. In some of my unfocused shots, like in the one above, I focused on something other than the portrait. In other unfocused shots that I took, there was no fucus to the photograph. I also tried to take photos from different angles, in the one above I took the picture from underneath where you would not normally take a photo from.

Who am I?

I have many things that define me as a person.  One of these things being that I am a student athlete.  For all of my life since I remember, I have played a sport every season.  A lot of things are important to me, my family, my friends, sports, excelling in school.  I strive to do all of these well. I am a very dedicated person and I always try my hardest.  My two favorite sports are lacrosse and swimming which I participate in often.
